Homeschool Encouragement Series: Week 2
Welcome to week 2 of our Homeschool Encouragement Series! For our 2nd guest, we’ll be hearing from Kendra from Teach Me Thy Way as she tells us about her homeschooling struggles and how she overcame them!
Hi, homeschool friends!
Meet Kendra
My name is Kendra, and I’m the creator and designer at Teach Me Thy Way. I’m also a certified teacher who has had the incredible experience of homeschooling my three beautiful daughters from kindergarten through 12th grade. My girls are now 20, 18, and 14 years old. I’ve seen two of them successfully graduate, and my youngest is about to embark on her high school journey. It’s been a rewarding path filled with learning, growth, and many life lessons.
Homeschool Encouragement
Homeschooling is a unique adventure, full of both triumphs and challenges. Some years, we were able to participate in a multitude of activities, from co-ops and sports to art classes and field trips. Those were the years filled with bustling schedules and a whirlwind of enriching experiences. However, there were also years when it all felt too much—years when we were on a tighter budget, life threw unexpected challenges our way, and we had to simplify our approach to education. And guess what? Despite the ups and downs, my girls still learned and thrived.
If there’s one piece of wisdom I can impart from my years of homeschooling, it’s this: give yourself grace. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when the days seem long and the to-do list never-ending. You might worry that you’re not doing enough or that your children are missing out on something. Trust me, I’ve been there. But it’s important to remember that homeschooling is not a race; it is a marathon. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, and what works for one family might not work for another.
On those tough days, when you feel like you’re barely holding it together, take a deep breath and remind yourself of why you chose this path. You’re providing a loving, tailored education for your children, one that allows them to grow at their own pace and explore their interests deeply. The flexibility of homeschooling means that even on days when you need to slow down, valuable learning is still happening.
Learning isn’t confined to textbooks and formal lessons. Life itself is a great teacher.
Kendra from Teach Me Thy Way
Learning isn’t confined to textbooks and formal lessons. Life itself is a great teacher. Your children are observing and absorbing more than you realize, whether it’s through helping with household tasks, engaging in worship, serving others, pursuing their hobbies, or having thoughtful conversations with you. These moments are just as important more important than structured academic work.
As you continue on this homeschooling journey, remember that perseverance and patience are key. Celebrate the small victories, cherish the time spent together, and don’t be too hard on yourself. Every day is a new opportunity for growth, both for you and your children. Embrace the journey with its highs and lows, and know that you’re doing an amazing job.
You’ve got this!
